Privacy policy
What this site stores, why it stores it, and how to have it removed.
Last updated: 2026-09-11
Summary
- There are no visitor accounts, no comments and no marketing cookies on this site.
- The only personal data we store is what you type into the contact form or the newsletter box.
- Advertising, when enabled, is served by Google AdSense, which may use cookies to select ads.
- We never sell, rent or trade personal data.
What we collect
We keep the amount of data collected deliberately small:
- Contact form: the name, email address and message you submit, plus the sending IP address, kept so we can answer you and block automated abuse.
- Newsletter: the email address you subscribe with, plus the sending IP address. You can unsubscribe by replying to any email we send or by writing to us.
- Article counters: an aggregate number of page views per article and per day. These counters are not linked to any individual visitor.
- Server logs: our hosting provider records standard request logs (IP address, user agent, requested URL) for security and troubleshooting, as every web server does.
- Administration: the sign-in events of website administrators are recorded in an audit log for account security.
Cookies
This site itself sets a session cookie only for signed-in administrators. Public visitors receive no cookie from our own code.
Advertising and font services loaded from third parties may set their own cookies — see the next section.
Third-party services
- Google AdSense — serves the advertisements on this site. Google and its partners may use cookies (including the DoubleClick cookie) to show ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings, and read how Google uses data from partner sites at policies.google.com.
- Google Fonts — delivers the typefaces used on this site, which means your browser requests the font files from Google’s servers.
- Hosting provider — stores this website and its standard access logs.
How long we keep data
- Contact form submissions: kept until the request has been answered and archived, then deleted on request.
- Newsletter addresses: kept until you unsubscribe.
- Aggregate view counters: kept indefinitely, because they contain no personal data.
- Server logs: rotated by the hosting provider on its own retention schedule.
Your rights
You may ask us to show you the personal data we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. Write to the address on the contact page and we will act on the request — there is no charge for this.
Children
This site is written for professional software developers. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
Changes to this policy
If a new feature changes what is collected, this page is updated and the “last updated” date above changes with it. Continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
